'Me time': Random memes to help you feel at ease

We seem to have more control over our scrolling experience than ever before.

When we take the effort to curate our social media feeds and take on board the personalized recommendations, we can fill our screens with content that, for the most part, aligns closely with our preferences. Whether we are interested in general entertainment or a niche topic, the internet gives us countless opportunities to seek out exactly what we enjoy.

Still, it is unrealistic to expect that every tiny piece of content presented to us will be the kind of thing we want to see. No matter how sophisticated algorithms become or how carefully we manage our feeds, there will always be the stuff that just fails to capture any interest.  Encountering this unwanted noise is a part of the whole experience.

These less enjoyable things can increase our appreciation for the content that resonates. The contrast is what makes it extra rewarding. In addition, the process of searching for hours to find something worthwhile can create more satisfaction when we eventually discover it. When we invest time and effort into uncovering the trash that we consider to be treasure, the experience can feel more meaningful than if it had been handed to us with no hard work on our part (not that we are against instant gratification).

For these reasons, a positive attitude is necessary when you take the time to scroll. While not everything will be tailored to you, the occasional disappointments help highlight the value of the stuff that is.
